BioWHO AM I? Well, all philosophical implications of that question aside, I'm a dude from the Antipodes in his mid-thirties with a university education, a randomly cynical but vaguely optimistic world view, and a thoroughly random sense of humour. Any more information than that is probably courting stalkers. That wasn't an invitation, by the way.
WHY AM I HERE? It recently occurred to me that there's this thing out there called "the internet". And up until recently, I've been doing bugger-all of any consequence with it.
Well, alright. I use it for research, both for work and to update my internal database of useless trivia. I go to movie sites and discuss Important Issues, like whether or not Children of Men was any good (it wasn't) or who should play Conan the Barbarian now that Arnie's taken the throne of California. I post stories I've written, and occasionally I even finish them. I'm a moderator on a Tolkien-themed messageboard. I used to play Ultima Online, until I got sick of trying to figure out where I'd left my mangled body last time. I email. I play flash games. I once pushed the Big Red Button, and I can confirm that it Didn't Do Anything.
Overall, a fairly pedestrian online existence. Where are my volumes of input? Where's my contribution to the collective online consciousness? Where are my tyre-tracks on the information superhighway?
Since I have no convincing answer to that question, I'll settle for starting a blog.
